Gold is Hot, So Are Our Updated Gold Auctions

We recently put up five gold auctions on eBay: 1907 Liberty Gold, 1972 $20 Gold St Gaudens Double Eagle PCGS MS 65, 1854 $3 Gold, 1899 $10 Gold Liberty, and a 1909 $5 Gold Indian. The Stamford show COINFEST - a few thoughts!

I arrived at the show on October 28th Thursday at about 12:30 p.m. My first reaction was the lack of the early show "crowds". I remember when the show opened 3 years ago, there were hundreds of collectors waiting to enter for early pickings. Retail buyer this day just weren't breaking the doors down. It seems that most buyers were dealers. Of course, this was the middle of the week, and most dealers I spoke to had hopes that collectors would be there Friday and Saturday.
Gold prices were healthy the first two days, with consistant up markets.
Unfortunately it appears that the collector market is taking a cautious market stance. While collectors are still filling those holes in their sets, retail sales are down.
Fortunately, with gold and silver on the rise, collectors were looking at coins related to those precious metals. Thus, silver dollars and gold type coins are in demand!

Upcoming Coin Show in Stamford, CT

Next week Stamford, CT will host Coinfest 2010, a regional show, with hundreds of dealers from around the country! We will be there - looking to sell and buy. To me a show is like treasure hunting, filling orders for our customers, while look for new deals for inventory. How Did You Start Collecting?

One of my favorite coins.

I would like to hear from collectors out there about what areas you are interested in and maybe we can start a conversation about how we were introduced to the wonderful world of numismatics.

I began collecting coins when I was 8. My mother had a small coin collection and gave a few coins to my brother, sister and I and the bug hit me and not them. My interest focused in Morgan Dollars--you got a lot of coin for your money back then. I think back then that I could have bought a twenty dollar Saint Gaudens gold piece for forty dollars. Too bad, that was way beyond the means of an eight year old!
